Mesh Tutorial 2 - line flow

Post by Simon »

Ok, don't try this yet - you'll go insane adding points. The next build will let you add polylines directly click-click-click, rather than adding lines after creating points.

Open the groups window and add normal curvy objects as children to a mesh.

As shown above add rows of lines following the shape of the underlying mesh... it helps to space the points out similarly on adjacent rows to help adding quads later.

In Beta 1.52 Right click to select a point, now the next point you add will be connected to this one with an edge. Right click away from all points or press space to deselect the point so you can start a new unconnected point or edge.

Using the layers panel add the mesh to one layer and the child objects to a different layer. Now by hiding both layers you can see the edges only... by hiding the mesh you can see the edges and the underlying model (easiest for adding faces in this mode)... and by hiding the child models you can see the mesh and edges - easiest to add faces in this last mode.

Here is the basic mesh - it was very quick to draw and I did not have to move/translate a single point!

Now you can sub-d the mesh a couple of times, as shown above... and add curvy maps and textures as shown below.
