Widget Tools

Post by Piroska »

Heya, I'm really new to Curvy (and 3D art in general). I've been watching the tutorials but I've gotten a bit stuck as they refer to widget tools, which I can see on the video but I can't seem to find in Curvy. Are they unavailable in the demo or am I looking in the wrong place?

Thanks and I apologise for the newbie question.

Older versions of Curvy had some different names for the same tools. In this case "Widget Move" and "Widget Rotate" were renamed "Soft Move" and "Soft Rotate" to suggest that they adjust part of the model with a soft falloff.

The name "Widget" more typically refers to the coloured arrows and boxes you can use for careful movement of an object.

I've been having a problem with painting the surface colour. Most times that I have used the tool it changes the shape of the base. It doesn't happen every time, so I know there must be a way to toggle it on and off, I'm just not sure how.

With "Surface Colour" (Vertex Colours) as opposed to "Texture Colour" (Image Pixel Colour) the default behavior is to subdivide the surface to allow for painting small details.

To stop this you can turn off Divide and Polish on the tools control panel.
