export .obj

Post by Malachi1 »

When I am importing an .obj file into Curvy and immediately export it ,the file is reduced about 50% of the original size.
So it must be doing something with the mesh.
The problem is that it distorted my UV map I'll see black spots or can not properly paint my UV map.
What is happened with the mesh and what can I do about it?

Hi,
OBJ files come in a lot of different varieties, the import and export of OBJ in Curvy is not suited for a 1 -> 1 import and export of the same mesh.

Curvy's OBJ import is good for getting a mesh in, but will discard a lot of info to make it compatible with Curvy.
Curvy's OBJ export can accurately save models made inside Curvy, but not always the same layout or format as the original OBJ.

Also, various sculpting tools in Curvy will destroy the texture information in the model.

So, ultimately I think you are hitting existing limitations in Curvy rather than a simple bug to fix.

Thank you Simon for your answer, now I can decide a lot easier for what purposes I make models in Curvy3D
and know what I can expect.
The best for 2019 and looking forward for Curvy3d 4.0. Regards Jan Karsten

Hello Simon,

Now there is a new version from curve3d (4.0) can you tell me if the problem
with the textures and the export of models is solved?

With kind regards Jan Karsten
