Newbie- Photos as displacements

Post by signman777 »

Hi every one,

Just bought the program. I've been using graphic and image programs for a long time, but this is my first foray into 3d.
I looked at Zbrush, Mudbox, and 3dCoat
and decided they are not for beginners, although they may be an option
in the future. Anyway, my 1st question:

I watched a video by Nick Zuccarello on Vimeo
(http://vimeo.com/2273521)
He uses photos as displacements and I was wondering if this is possible in
Curvy 3d.
Thanks in advance

Yes this is possible, and a helpful technique in Curvy. You need a high resolution curvy object to start with (use the resolution slider to up the number of polygons in a lathe object) then right click the grey square by "Curvy Map" to choose your photo to load as a displacement map. The sliders under "Curvy Map" let you control the amount of displacement and the amount of smoothing.
