Re: drill a hole
OK, there was no - next to the sphere in the groups list. Moving the cylinder over and to the right of the sphere made the minus appear. I did try object group after using Ctrl and select each object but that did not seem to do the same. I did expect it to. The hole crafted into the sphere is as rou...

Re: drill a hole
I am sorry or the delay in responding.
I tried what you stated and it did not work or me.
Did you press k to set to mesh mode or not?
I tried both ways and no joy for me.
I am sorry to ask but could you give me a step by step guide.
From new empty to a sphere with a cylindrical hole through it.

Re: drill a hole
Ok, thanks for those methods. I am trying subtract from parent and wanted to know how I determine which part is the parent? I have a sphere and a cylinder (small diameter longer length) which I have placed into the centre so all views show the cylinder is going through the sphere. I pressed k to do ...

drill a hole
Is there any way to drill a hole in an object?
The model I want to make is technical rather than artistic.
I would like to be able to cut out parts of the 3d object using a hard line sculpting tool like a drill or wood caving knife.
Is there any way I can do that?

sculpting depth limit
I am continuing with my method of attempting to sculpt down through a number of spheres centred together. I have a set of 5 coloured where outer 4 are shades of grey and the centre one is blue and am not able to sculpt beyond sphere 3. Sphere 4 sculpting almost looks like its adding rather than subt...

Re: painting inner object
Further to this if I move the larger sphere to the side and try to paint it a different colour it paints both. I have set the paint size to maximum. Does that mean it paints both becasue the paint size is depth as well as width? At the moment it seems the best I can do is create the spheres separate...

Re: painting inner object
Ok, I will try again but in the mean time if I sculpt down to see the inner sphere should I be able to paint that inner sphere a different colour from the outer sphere.
I am asking because I cannot.

Re: painting inner object
Simon, the process I am following is: Create one sphere, rename it, resize it and colour it. Select the select pointer tool. point to the sphere and use Edit/Copy/Paste From the object list panel I see another sphere has appeared. I select that sphere and rename it. I then resize and paint it a diff...

painting inner object
I have a sphere coloured blue, copy/paste to create another sphere on same location, coloured it grey, converted to mesh for sculpting.
Sculpt Sub centre of outer sphere to reveal the inner sphere which is now grey.
How do I keep the colour of the inner object?
Was it lost in the mesh? I used K

Re: object properties - measurements
Simon, ok. thanks. had not though about using copy/paste. I have done that successfully. At the moment I am trying to achieve my aim using subtraction sculpting as I believe I am not able to reach the aim using additional building. That is because I need to position the added items accurately centra...

Re: object properties - measurements
Simon, thanks for that. I can see how to use that now.
If I wanted to centre two spheres in the exact same centre how would I do that?
I am asking as I don't seem to be able to see the location of the object in the 3d space its drawn in.
Is there an option I have not enabled?

object properties - measurements
If I create an object or select one I see the properties of the object. If I want to adjust its size I use the slider. If I want to create another object which is exactly half that objects size It seems to me that I can only do the sizing by eye. Is there some way I can view measurements of the obje...

Re: cube with pictures on the sides
Thank you very much for your response and patients.
I now have enough information and a process to follow so can continue on my way to develop the objects I need.
