Oh. That's it, I used wrong tool. Good, now it works sensibly. I understood that one tool for 2D and one for 3D. Seems I'll be using only the texture one from now on. Vertex colors are not in my render flow.

Curvy Map, yes; hi res, no. Actually very lo res: 256x256. Several maps, to be honest, I don't really remember which I used; I have tons of them. I generate them with Gimp scripts.
