Hi Simon!

Fantastic application, and after a long time on the fence, I finally decided to download a trial version after the release of Curvy 5

However, after installing it, I discovered it says Curvy 5 and Curvy 4 in difference places.

Please look at the attached image for clarity

I presume I'm using Curvy 5 though!

You are right it is version 5, I missed that bit of text that still said 4! Thanks for pointing it out, will fix.

5.0.14 is the latest full version available. 5.0.15 is just the demo.

Thanks, and no worries!

I am facing bits of crashes once in a while, particularly with high res objects

Haven't been able to pinpoint the issue yet, except that high res objects slow down on my system and then crash

I am on a not-so-new system, maybe that's the issue?

Specs:

Dual Xeon 2620 (24 cores)
32GB RAM
NVIDIA Quadro K4200 4GB

Is their a way to retrieve a crash report from Curvy 3D?

I wonder if the crashes are due to a particular method you are using, I don't see crashes very often. If there is an error message when it crashes that can help, but Curvy doesn't save logs.

I recommend using Ctrl-Shift-S to save incremental versions of your project to guard against losses, and perhaps limiting yourself to under a million triangles per model.

So far, I'm just testing features, to see how far I can take the hi-res objects

Good tip on the incremental save, thanks!
I usually do that on production files, in any app :D

The last crash was when I tried to use the Soft Move tool 'T' to move the object's 'silhouette' to get some spikes,
like around a sun or a starfish

The cursor glitched a bit, and there was a second's pause, and Curvy went into a non-responsive mode
(I figured it might be calculating stuff)

After Curvy came to, all was good until I clicked to drag again with the 'T' tool - instant crash

I agree with the app being stable, generally very stable :)

I suspect it's my graphics card though

Thanks for giving the steps. I tried T dragging on a 12,000,000 resolution model and couldn't get it to crash.

That's good to know

Which makes me think two things:

1. I'm using the trial, and the version number is different to the non-trial version
I have zero knowledge of how these differ though, just highlighting the difference here

2. My graphics card could be the culprit

Although, I can get away with higher res objects on Mudbox and ZBrush
But this might not be a fair comparison, as every app is developed differently

And definitely not comparing in any way or form, again, just highlighting for troubleshooting purposes

Hey Simon 👋

I found out the reason behind the crashes:
I was using my drawing tablet!

I recently read in one of the threads that Curvy doesn't support drawing tablets. Is that still true?

In any case, the crashes were gone once I switched to a mouse

You're right, Curvy is quite performant and stable!

On the other hand, on my system, I can go up to 5.x million polygons, anything higher the interaction grinds to a halt
But this is due to my older hardware
.

I've used my Wacom tablet with Curvy, no problems. And I know other people use tablets to draw in Curvy. Not sure why that might make it crash. :?

I'm using the One by Wacom with the latest drivers:

Also, not sure what the issue might be, but I'll try to troubleshoot over the next few days and update any findings here
